National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders and members in Namboko Sub-county, Namisindwa District, have threatened to remove their party chairman, George Bush Wanamula, accusing him of endorsing an independent candidate and causing confusion within the party.

The controversy began when Wanamula represented James Wakabenga Wakuma, an independent aspirant for the Bubulo East Parliamentary seat, during the burial of the late Elizabeth Khakasa of Bumwangu Village, Namboko Sub-county, who was laid to rest on October 14, 2025.

During the burial, Wanamula delivered a condolence envelope containing UGX 100,000 on behalf of Wakuma, an act that shocked mourners and angered party members, who questioned how a senior NRM leader could openly represent someone outside the party structures.

Moses Wandabwa, the NRM vice chairperson for Namboko Sub-county, expressed disappointment over Wanamula’s conduct, accusing him of failing to provide proper leadership. He revealed that he has already consulted other executive members, and they are considering passing a vote of no confidence in their chairman.

Michael Sakari, the NRM general secretary for Namboko, said the chairman’s actions violated the resolutions passed during the sub-county NRM conference, where members had agreed to always rally behind official party flag bearers. He warned that such behavior could cause serious divisions within the party as it prepares for a crucial mobilization period.

Difasi Wakuma, the chairperson of the elderly in the area, urged district party officials to temporarily refrain from dealing with Wanamula until he reconciles with his sub-county team and restores unity among members.

When contacted for a comment, Wanamula dismissed the allegations, saying he is being witch-hunted by individuals who never supported him. He explained that he is a relative of Wakuma and only delivered the condolence message because the burial took place near Wakuma’s home. He urged party members to use formal channels to address grievances instead of engaging in “cheap gossip.”

Meanwhile, Ramazan Wabuko, the NRM chairperson for Namisindwa District, called for calm among members. He urged them to focus their efforts on mobilizing support for the party’s national flag bearer and other official candidates, emphasizing the need for unity as the district prepares to welcome the President on November 8.
