The Namisindwa district has decided to organize annual bullfighting activities as a way to boost tourism in the district.

This was revealed by Rogers Walyama, the Namisindwa District Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC), during the closing ceremony of the activities held at Luwa Town Council in Namisindwa district on Sunday evening, 26th October, 2025.

Bullfighting is a popular tourism and recreational activity in the three Bugisu districts of Bududa, Manafwa, and Namisindwa.

Farmers from these districts bring their bulls to fight, and the winner receives prizes, including cash, from attending politicians.

According to Walyama, the district has decided to host the bullfighting activities annually, featuring teams from the three districts, to promote tourism and generate revenue.

He stated that this would enable the local population to benefit financially from sales and the district to earn taxes, as the event attracts thousands of people from within and outside the region.

Peace Khalayi, the Namisindwa district woman Member of Parliament aspirant on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, expressed her delight with the district’s decision, saying it would promote Namisindwa and Bugisu globally.

She noted that Bugisu now has two unique activities – circumcision and bullfighting – that can put the region on the world map. Khalayi appealed to the government for the construction of a modern, organized venue with seating for spectators, promising to prioritize this if elected as woman member of parliament in the upcoming general election.

Metrine Musufwa, the NRM flag bearer for Namisindwa County Member of Parliament seat, urged locals to support the initiative, saying it would market the district and bring it to the national spotlight.

Samuel Watulo from Bududa district and Peter Wamatabo from Namisindwa, who emerged victorious with their bulls, expressed their happiness with the district’s plan, stating that it would encourage people in their districts to continue rearing animals.
