Namisindwa Woman Drowns Attempting to Recover Basin Floating Away

A tragic incident has shaken the residents of Bukoki B cell, Bukeemo Ward, Lwakhakha Town Council in Namisindwa district.

 

A 25-year-old woman only identified as Zaina, lost her life after drowning in the Lwakhakha River on October 27, 2025, at around 11:00 am.

 

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, reports indicate that Zaina had gone to the riverbank to wash clothes when the basin she was using started floating away.

 

He says in an attempt to retrieve it, she slipped and fell into the river, where the strong currents swept her away.

 

Taitika says efforts are currently underway to recover Zaina’s body. The incident has left the community in shock, and investigations are ongoing.
