MBALE CITY
The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has appointed three officers to mediate between Mike Mudoma, the III Umukuka of Inzu Yamasaba, and Amuram Wagabyalire, his rival.
This decision follows a court ruling on September 19, 2025 in which Prossy Katushabe, the Mbale High Court Registrar, ruled that the ministry should facilitate mediation between the two parties.
The long-standing dispute between Mudoma and Wagabyalire stems from Wagabyalire’s accusations that Mudoma forcefully and illegally took over Inzu Yamasaba as the 3rd Umukuuka, dissolved Inzu Yamasaba, and formed Inzu Yabugisu. Wagabyalire also accused the government, through the Attorney General, of illegally gazetting Mudoma despite his allegedly unlawful election.
The three appointed mediators are: Anthony Butera, former Deputy Chief Justice, who will chair the mediation, Yorokam Bamwine, former Judge, and a one Gimara, a Lawyer.
According to Stephen Masiga, spokesperson for Inzu Yamasaba while speaking to our reporter on Monday, 3rd November, the mediation is scheduled for November 6th at a venue yet to be determined.
Masiga believes this is a good opportunity for the two parties to engage in roundtable talks and end the five-year conflict.
Amuram Wagabyalire expressed happiness about the upcoming mediation, stating that prolonged conflicts cannot benefit Bugisu.
