The Inzu Ya Bugisu is set to train over 3,000 surgeons in the Bugisu region in preparation for the official Imbalu launch in August, 2026.

Stephen Masiga, Public Relations Officer of Inzu Ya Bugisu, revealed this on Wednesday, 7th January, 2026 during a meeting with surgeons from across the region at Inzu Ya Bugisu headquarters in Mbale City.

Masiga stated that Inzu Ya Bugisu, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, will train the surgeons on using clean knives and preventing HIV/AIDS transmission between candidates.

He says the goal is to ensure the safety of both surgeons and candidates undergoing circumcision.

Jud Mike Mudoma, Umukuka III of Inzu Ya Bugisu, announced that trained surgeons will receive Inzu Ya Bugisu certificates, and only certified surgeons will be allowed to perform circumcisions.

Moses Kutoi, Minister for Culture at Inzu Ya Bugisu, urged surgeons to embrace the training to ensure their safety and improve their work.

Some surgeons who spoke to our reporter after the meeting urged Inzu Ya Bugisu to be strict and ensure that only those who attend the training are allowed to perform circumcisions.

They expressed concern that in 2024, less than 200 surgeons were trained and given certificates, but all were allowed to perform circumcisions, which they deemed unfair.
