The high court in Jinja on Monday 9th March 2026 released NRM chairperson and former Kagoma County MP aspirant Fredrick Munyirwa for failure to pay Shillings 45 million to Walyomu Muwaniika in costs after he lost an election petition in 2021.
Fredrick Munyirwa was arrested on Monday 9th March 2026 by the court bailiffs from Ambrose Tibyaza and company advocates on orders of Hon. Walyomu Muwanika.
Court presided over by the deputy court registrar Mukanza Robert however released Munirwa after reaching an agreement to produce the payment receipts from the Bank after he claimed to have paid half of the amount.
Munyirwa is expected back in court today 10th March 2026 afternoon with the receipts of the cleared amount and reach an agreement on how to clear the remaining balance.
As can be recalled, on 31st August 2021 the high court in Jinja dismissed with costs the election petition challenging the election of Moses Walyomu Muwanika as Member of Parliament for Kagoma County.
Walyomu had been dragged to court by Fredrick Munyirwa on a number of grounds including being illegally nominated.
Munyirwa also claimed that Walyomu did not have the requisite academic qualifications of A level or its equivalent and accused him of bribing voters and changing his name among others.
While delivering his judgement, the trial judge, Justice Joseph Murangira ruled that the evidence adduced by the petitioner against MP Moses Walyomu did not convince court and dismissed the case with costs.
Efforts to have a comment from Walyomu were futile as his known phone lines were off.
