The Office of the Education Officer in Bukedea district has today, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 rolled out training of school head teachers on basics of handling EMIS (Education Management Information System) in schools across the district.

Training is being held at Bukedea Senior Secondary School and is attended by both government and private school head teachers.

Stephen Okurut, the Bukedea district education officer told this publication that the system will be used to monitor both teachers and learners at school.

“This system is controlled by a website and all data for both learners and teachers will be captured with the support of the school head teachers,” said Mr. Okurut.

Okurut also added that much as government is trying its best in improving teacher and learner turn-up in schools, some school head teachers are not well-versed with the system.

“I checked one of the schools using EMIS, the learners’ turn up is zero yet the school head teachers and teachers are busy saying learners are at school, let’s embrace the system and utilize the system for the betterment of our district,” added Okurut.

He further added that through this system, no teacher can be captured in the system, if he or she is not at school and the same applies to learners, so the cases of absenteeism will be minimized in schools.

Mr. Henry Ssali, the Bukedea district EMIS support officer and EMIS regional supervisor in charge eastern region, said the system is introduced to ease the head teacher’s work of monitoring and managing the school data using the website database.

“All the information concerning the school will be uploaded on the EMIS website provided by the Ministry of Education and Sports”, said Mr. Ssali.

Stephen Odeke, Kachumbala primary school head teacher said before the EMIS system was rolled out, teachers used to suffer to hire private service providers which was challenging to most of the schools.
