AG’s letter

The Attorney General has stopped the Uganda Land Commission from entering into any Lease Agreements without explicit advice/approval from his office.

In a letter dated 24th March, 2026, the Attorney General says that whereas Uganda Land Commission concludes many lease agreements and or contracts with private citizens, the same are not submitted to the Attorney General for advice as required by Article 199(5) of the Constitution of Uganda.

Commissioner Land Registration

Following that letter, the Commissioner, Land Registration has written to all Registrars of Titles that any lease agreement entered into by the Uganda Land Commission without the advice of the Attorney General is Null and Void.

“Consequently this is to advice all Registrars of Title not to register any new Leases issued by the Uganda Land Commission unless consented to by the Attorney General in writing or backed up the Attorney General’s advice in writing,” directs the Commissioner, Land Registration in a letter dated 14th April, 2026.
