Kiira regional police command on Tuesday 28th April, 2026 swiftly responded to the crime scene of attempted theft of cash to a tune of 46m shillings belonging to Sheikh Shafic Edrisa Songolo.
Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi says the suspected four Kenyan nationals trailed the victim right from the bank he had gone to conduct transactions up to Spire Road in Jinja City where he parked his motor vehicle Toyota Harrier UBF 715B and went for Swalah prayers.
The culprits made unsuccessful attempts to steal from the vehicle targeting the money in the car and other valuables. The vigilant community members observed the actions of the suspects and immediately alerted police.
Kiira regional police command together with CPS Jinja Central swiftly responded and managed to arrest two Kenyan nationals who voluntarily confessed and provided crucial information of having long term programs of conducting thefts and robberies in the eastern districts of Uganda.
Efforts to have the two other suspects that were traveling in the vehicle belonging to the Kenyan nationals are underway.
CCTV footage reveals that the two culprits in custody namely, Irene Kananu 42 and Nanis Kaguri 38 and others still at large have been involved in numerous robberies and thefts in the eastern region.
The public that spoke to this publication applauded Kiira regional police commander SSP Charles Nsaba for his sustained efforts in securing the people of Jinja through the regular and supervised security and safety programs like motorcycle squad day and night patrols, conducting expeditious and prosecution guided investigations, protection and promotion of human rights-based policing and use of non-confrontational approach to address societal challenges and issues.
