TORORO: 18-Year-Old Boy Killed After Night Vigil

Police are hunting for unknown assailants who murdered an 18-year-old boy in Nyangole Sub-county, Tororo District, on Saturday night, 2nd May, 2026, in an attack linked to a night vigil.

 

The deceased has been identified as Laus Obbo, a resident of Maguria B Zone, Nyangole Parish in Nyangole Sub-county.

 

He was killed at around midnight while returning home from last funeral rites at the home of Wilberforce Ogola in Achilet C Zone, Achilet Parish, Nyangole Sub-county in Tororo district.

 

Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, IP Moses Johnson Mugwe said Obbo was in the company of others when they were ambushed by unknown attackers.

 

“It is alleged that on 2nd May 2026, the deceased together with others attended last funeral rites. While returning at 12am, they were intercepted by unknown suspects who chased them. In the process, the deceased was fatally cut and his body dumped in a cassava garden,” Mugwe said.

 

The body was retrieved, and conveyed to Tororo Municipal Mortuary for postmortem examination.

 

Mugwe confirmed that investigations are underway and efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects have been intensified.

 

He appealed to residents with information to volunteer it to police to aid the probe.

 

The police spokesperson further cautioned the public against organizing night activities, saying they expose people to danger and violate the right to life.

 

“We appeal to the public to desist from organizing night activities which compromise the safety of people and act in a manner that violates human rights, more so the right to life,” Mugwe added.
