Police at Kira Division on Wednesday 6th May, 2026 recovered a three-month-old baby boy who had been reported stolen in Kireka D Cell, Kireka Ward, Namugongo Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Kampala Metropolitan Regional Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said that on 4th May 2026, one Amongin Brenda visited the home of her cousin, Akunyo Sarah, having traveled from Kalaki District. She reportedly informed the family that she had come to process her National ID under the express service.
On 5th May 2026 at approximately 2:00 PM, the mother of the victim briefly stepped outside, leaving the baby asleep in the house. Upon her return, she discovered that the child was missing, and the suspect had also disappeared.
Following coordinated efforts by Police, the suspect was successfully tracked and arrested on 6th May 2026 in Soroti District. The stolen baby was also safely recovered.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect had allegedly misled her husband into believing she was pregnant. On 2nd May 2026, she reportedly asked him for money, claiming she needed to go to the hospital to deliver.
By the time of publishing this story, the suspect is currently in custody and will face charges accordingly as efforts are ongoing to reunite the baby with the family.
