Leaders in Namisindwa district are concerned about returning over Shs1 billion meant for staff recruitment for the 2025/26 financial year.
The central government allocated the funds to recruit staff, since the district has only one substantive head of department currently. However, the process stalled after council failed to approve hiring a Service Commission Chairperson from another district, a legal requirement before advertising the positions.
While speaking to district leaders on Tuesday at the district head office during the hand over exercise of the outgoing LC5 chairperson Jackson Wakwaika, CAO Joseph Lomongin expressed his disappointment saying council did a disservice to the people of Namisindwa.
He says many districts are eager to have such recruitment funds but don’t, adding that getting such an opportunity again will be tough.
Lomongin highlighted benefits of having substantial staff, especially heads of departments, including improved service delivery and national ranking performance.
Outgoing LCV Chairperson, Jackson Wakwaika, noted ongoing projects like construction of district head offices and health center, theater constructions at Bumbo health center 3 and Bupoto health center 3, urging incoming leaders to follow them up for successful completion.
Bwayo Kitumbesi, outgoing Vice Chairperson of Namisindwa, praised Wakwaika as a unifying leader who will be hard to replace.
David Mityelo, acting Production Officer, says Wakwaika and technical staff worked well together, helping Namisindwa rise from 49th to 40th position county-wide during recent national rankings.
Rogers Walyama, Assistant RDC, urged Wakwaika to continue advising district leaders if needed after this handover since the district still need him.
