JUST IN: DPP Speaks Out on Parliament Graft Investigations

By Peter Luzinda

KAMPALA

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Lino Anguzu, has today, Friday, 22nd May, 2026 disclosed that his office is providing background legal support to ongoing investigations into alleged corruption within Parliament, including inquiries linked to former Speaker Anita Among.

Anguzu said the DPP’s office is working behind the scenes with investigative agencies to ensure that evidence gathered meets the legal threshold required for prosecution should criminal charges arise. However, he stressed that the investigations are still in progress and warned against making assumptions about the outcome before the process is completed.

His comments come amid intensifying investigations into allegations of corruption, money laundering and illicit enrichment involving Among. The investigations have drawn national attention following a series of searches conducted by security agencies at properties associated with the former Speaker.

Last week, investigators raided residences linked to Among in Nakasero, Kigo and Ntinda, as well as her office at Parliament. During the operations, authorities reportedly seized a number of items believed to be relevant to the ongoing inquiry, including vehicles, cash, jewellery and electronic surveillance equipment.

The searches marked a significant escalation in the investigation, which is being handled by multiple state agencies. Officials are examining the source of the recovered assets and whether they were acquired through legitimate means.

While declining to discuss specific details of the case, Anguzu maintained that the DPP’s role is to guide investigators on legal requirements and assess evidence presented before any prosecution decisions can be made.

The developments have fueled debate over accountability in public office and renewed calls for stronger action against corruption in government institutions. Anti-corruption advocates have urged authorities to ensure the investigations are conducted independently and transparently, regardless of the status of those involved.

No formal charges have yet been announced, and investigators continue to gather evidence as the probe unfolds.

The case is expected to remain under close public scrutiny as authorities work to determine whether the allegations can be substantiated in court.
