Police in Mbale District have launched investigations into the murder of a 67-year-old businessman who succumbed to injuries after being attacked by unknown assailants at his home in Bunabutye Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Soita Micheal, a resident of Lwaboba East Village in Bunabutye Sub-county, Mbale District. According to police, the incident occurred on May 11, 2026, at an unknown time, but was reported to Lwaboba Police Station on May 12 at around 12:40 p.m.

A police statement indicates that on the night of May 11 at about 9:30 p.m., the deceased reportedly received two visitors — a man he introduced to his son as an in-law and a woman whom he allegedly described as a wife he had been dating for two years. However, he did not disclose their names or addresses.

The two visitors reportedly spent the night at the deceased’s home. The following morning, the deceased’s son, Mwalami Geofrey, went to check on his father to discuss their local brew business, commonly known as marwa. He found the elderly man lying unconscious in a pool of blood while the two visitors had disappeared.

Geoffrey immediately alerted a resident identified as Mayama, who assisted in rushing the victim to Wamukota Clinic for medical attention. He was later referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, where he remained admitted and receiving treatment until May 26, 2026, when he passed away without regaining consciousness or identifying his attackers.

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson said the body was conveyed to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

He noted that the suspects were believed to have been known to the deceased, but their identities remain unknown since the deceased died before revealing any information.

Police have since intensified efforts to trace and arrest the suspects while awaiting the postmortem report to aid investigations.
