The President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander‑in‑Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), H.E. Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has promoted 301 General, Senior, and Junior Officers.
In addition, 83 Officers who had been serving in acting capacities have been confirmed in their substantive ranks, while probationary ranks of 89 Second Lieutenants have now been confirmed as Lieutenants.
According to Col. Chris Magezi, the UPDF Acting Spokesperson, among the senior‑most General Officers confirmed and promoted are: Ag Maj Gen Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga – confirmed as Major General.
Others are; Brig Gen Godwin Karugaba – promoted to Major General, and serves as Joint Staff Logistics, Brig Gen Chris Musinguzi Bagonza – promoted to Major General. He serves as Chief of Staff – Land Forces, and Brig Gen Michael Nyarwa – promoted to Major General. He serves as Commander, Marine Brigade
The other two are; Brig Gen Richard Karemire – promoted to Major General and Brig Gen David Robert Gonyi – promoted to Major General.
He says the promotions and confirmations strengthen leadership across all levels of the Force and ensure continuity in fulfilling the UPDF’s constitutional mandate to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Uganda.
