Police in Tororo are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday, August 16, 2026, at around 11:00am at the Tororo Cement Factory yard.

The accident involved two motor vehicles:  Reg No. KDQ 618U / ZD3857, a white Mercedes Benz Actros, M/v Reg No. KCQ 045U / ZD1932, a white Tata truck

The deceased has been identified as Ochwo Yonasan, 32, a Japadhola and casual worker at Tororo Cement Factory. He was a resident of Ramogi Cell, Amagoro Ward, Osukuru Town Council. He died on the spot.

According to IP Mugwe Johnson Moses, the Bukedi South Regional Police PRO, the deceased was at the rear of the Tata truck tying a tarpaulin when the Mercedes Benz Actros, which was coming from behind, knocked it.

“Ochwo Yonasan was knocked and died on the spot,” IP Mugwe said.

Preliminary findings by police attribute the cause of the accident to reckless driving by the driver of M/v KDQ 618U/ZD3857.

Traffic officers and SOCO visited the scene. A sketch plan was drawn and both motor vehicles were escorted to Tororo Central Police Station pending inspection by the IOV.

The body of the deceased was taken to Tororo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police say efforts are underway to arrest the driver of the Mercedes Benz Actros, who fled the scene immediately after the accident. The case is registered at Tororo CPS.
