Office of the President, the appointing authority of RDCs has recalled George Owanyi, the Bukwo Resident District Commissioner over corruption related allegations.
During the visit of Balaam Baruhagara, the minister for local government in the area recently, a number of residents raised concerns over Parish Development Program saying people who were included in the program are either rich or related to Owanyi.
Owanyi was also tasked about commissioning a building that had obvious cracks with the area LC3 Chairperson accusing the embattled RDC of having pocketed ‘kitu kidogo’ to commission the building despite his protests.
This prompted Balaam to report him to the appointing authority for further investigation and management.
“It has been noted with concerns that the situation in the district has spilled out of your control, and in view of the prevailing circumstances therefore, you are hereby recalled back to the headquarters with immediate effect,” reads a letter dated 27th August, 2026 and authored by Hajji Yunus Kakande, Secretary Office of the President.
Owanyi who is to report to Kampala today, 28th August, 2026 has been ordered to hand over office to his Deputy to take charge until further notice.
Confirming the development, the Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda took to her X-Handle, saying Owanyi has been recalled to head office in the rewards and sanctions committee, pending investigations.
“I highly emphasize discipline and teamwork amongst all staff serving under the Office of the President,” writes Milly Babalanda.
