Police in Iganga District on Saturday 29th August 2026 arrested 5 suspects over allegations of illegal titling and attempted sale of public land situated at Nakalama Sub-County Headquarters, Iganga district. The land in question measures approximately 4.45 acres.
This followed a written directive issued by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Iganga on 28th August 2026, after a complaint lodged by Mr. Nkalanguke Tom, the Land Officer, Iganga District.
The suspects were identified as Kawanguzi Hamidu, 38, Chairperson LCIII, Nakalama Sub-County, Wakabi Deo Mia, 47, Senior Assistant County Chief / Principal Township Officer, Nakalama Sub-County, Aniswali Sadat, 29, Director, Dell-Wall International Uganda Ltd, Mbudu Isima alias Museffu, 35, Member, Area Land Committee, Swaga Mahammed, LC1 Chairperson, Nakalama North Village.
ASP Kasadha Micheal, Busoga East Regional spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying investigations indicate that between April 2025 and February 2026, public officials at Nakalama Sub-County allegedly conspired to fraudulently acquire a private land title over public land at the Sub-County Headquarters.
The officials allegedly used a purported land claim by one Waiswa Testo as a pretext to bring in private surveyors, manipulated members of the Area Land Committee into signing partially filled land forms, and processed a private title over the said public land.
It is further alleged that the title was later sold to directors of Dell-Wall International Uganda Limited at a cost of between UGX 130 million and UGX 140 million. The title was reportedly handed over to the buyers in May 2026. Verification by relevant authorities confirmed that the titled land is indeed public land.
The suspects are currently in custody at Iganga Central Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing.
