Namisindwa District has finally given its position on lifting the interdiction of Namisindwa Town Council Town Clerk, Eddy Wesonga.
Last month, Wesonga asked the district to lift his interdiction, threatening to take them to court, saying there was evidence that he was interdicted wrongly without following the law.
Wesonga was interdicted on the orders of the Ministry of Local Government shortly after the visit of Balaam Barugahara to Namisindwa, following allegations that in the financial year 2024/25, 9.5 million shillings was allegedly diverted at Lwakhakha Town Council while serving as town clerk there which Wesonga has disputed.
He disputed the interdiction, saying he was not serving as Lwakhakha Town Council Town Clerk at the time, but had already been transferred to Namisindwa Town Council as Town Clerk meaning he has no knowledge of the Shs9.5M.
In August, 2026, Wesonga petitioned the Ministry of Local Government and the district to lift his interdiction and threatened to seek legal redress in case the district does not lift it.
Consequently, on Thursday, 3rd September, 2026 in an interview with our reporter, the Namisindwa Chief Administrative, Joseph Lomongin, said they are not ready to lift his interdiction unless he gets a clearance letter from the Ministry of Local Government.
“He is free to seek legal redress as said but I advise him to follow proper law since Interdiction was a directive from Permanent Secretary, Ministry of local government,” Lomongin said.
The CAO said after receiving the allegation, as a district they had set him aside pending investigation, but later the Ministry of Local Government ordered them to interdict him, meaning it is again the Ministry of Local Government that should order the lifting of his interdiction.
Meanwhile, the CAO said they have made transfers of all sub-county chiefs across the district for better service delivery.
