The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Microfinance, is planning to support District Commercial Officers with transport means monitor and run the Emyooga programme.

This was revealed by Hon. Shartsi Kutesa Musherure, the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Microfinance), on Thursday, 29th October, 2026 while speaking to hundreds of Emyooga beneficiaries in Moroto Municipality, Moroto District, during a Baraza meeting.

The previous day, the State Minister, Microfinance Support Centre officers, and the State House Emyooga Monitoring and Coordination Unit headed by Rita Namuwenge started touring the Karamoja sub-region to assess how to transform the region economically using government programmes like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM), among others.

On Thursday, the Minister and her team met beneficiaries and District Commercial Officers from the Karamoja region to discuss the progress of the programme and the challenges they are facing.

The District Commercial Officers raised concerns about lack of transport and facilitation to monitor the programme.

They said Karamoja has hard-to-reach areas and they have to move to different places in their respective districts but cannot manage due to lack of transport, and requested government to provide them with motorcycles or vehicles to help with transport.

In response, the Minister pledged to support all District Commercial Officers in the country with transport means so that they can be able to reach places in their districts to monitor the programme.

She said this time, the government is serious about Emyooga, especially in the Karamoja region, so that it can be used to fight rampant poverty in the region.

Meanwhile, Namuwenge, asked the people of Karamoja to embrace the Emyooga programme.

She said the government is willing to add more money to Emyooga SACCOs in Karamoja because the region is special and faces challenges like hunger, insecurity and drought, among others.
