Ugandan rapper Fik Fameica was involved in a tense exchange with Makerere University Guild President Gracious Kadondi during the university’s Freshers Ball 2026 on Saturday night after she interrupted his performance to address students.
The incident happened at Impis Rugby Grounds, where Kadondi walked onto the stage accompanied by members of her team shortly after Fik had started performing.
She reportedly wanted to speak to the students before the rapper continued, having apparently been unhappy that she had not been given an earlier opportunity to address the gathering.
However, Fik was not ready to give up the microphone, telling Kadondi and her team to leave the stage.
“Leave my stage! I have work to do,” he was heard saying in videos of the confrontation circulating online.
Police officers and members of the singer’s team were also seen on stage as the disagreement unfolded. The exchange lasted several minutes, attracting attention from the crowd, with some students chanting Fik Fameica’s name.
Kadondi and her team eventually left the stage, allowing the rapper to continue his performance.
The incident has since sparked debate, with social media users expressing different views about who was entitled to control the stage.
Some argued that Fik had arrived late and was under pressure to complete his performance before the event was closed. Others questioned why the Guild President had not been given an opportunity to address students earlier, noting that it is customary for guild leaders to participate in major university events.
The free-entry Freshers Ball was held under the #MAKFreshersBall26 banner, with Coca-Cola supporting the event through its Essaawa Yonna Kisoboka campaign.
The entertainment line-up included Fik Fameica, Azawi, Feffe Bussi, Winnie Nwagi and Mozelo Kidz, among others. Despite the rain, students turned up in large numbers.
Kadondi, a third-year Bachelor of Optometry student at Makerere’s College of Health Sciences, was elected the university’s 92nd Guild President in April 2026 on the National Unity Platform ticket, winning 6,801 votes ahead of Hannah Karema.
Neither the university nor the students’ guild had issued an official statement on the confrontation by the time of publication.
