BUDUDA

Police in Bududa District are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man whose body was discovered along the banks of River Manafwa on Monday, 2nd November, 2026.

The deceased, identified as Alex Kigai, was a resident of Namawumba Village in Bumasata Parish, Bulucheke Sub-county. The circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear by press time.

Bududa District Police Commander, Barnabas Banyenzaki said police would use all available means to investigate the incident and pursue anyone found responsible.

He appealed to residents to share information about suspected criminal activity, saying cooperation between the public and security agencies was essential in fighting crime.

Leaders raise security concerns

Namawumba Village LC1 chairperson, Peter Butsiba expressed concern about insecurity in the area. He accused suspected opium smokers of moving through the community armed with machetes and threatening residents.

Butsiba appealed to security agencies and district leaders to strengthen security, including introducing patrols to curb criminal activity. However, no connection between the people he described and Kigai’s death had been established.

Bududa District LC5 chairperson, Geoffrey Natubu, who identified Kigai as his relative, said the incident was worrying but cautioned that the cause of death was not yet known.

He pledged to work with security agencies to establish what happened and ensure that anyone involved was apprehended.

Police investigations continue

According to Natubu, the discovery follows the killing of a woman whose body was dumped in a stream in the neighbouring Kikoolo Town Council area last month. He described Kigai’s death as the second suspected killing reported in that area within two months.

Banyenzaki said police were treating the latest incident as a suspected murder, bringing the number of reported murder cases in Bududa District to five since the beginning of the year.

By press time, police had deployed a sniffer dog at the scene to assist with investigations. The cause of Kigai’s death and whether anyone else was involved had not been established.
