A conjoined twin operated by a team of surgeons headed by Dr. Joseph Epodoi at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital last year has made one year.

Maria Asianut Epodoi was operated on March 27th 2021 by Dr. Joseph Epodoi and a team of medics at Soroti regional referral hospital.  The twin-girls were delivered at Amuria District Hospital to Joyce Alinga, a- 21- year- old senior three student who conceived during the COVID-19 lockdown.

But moments after the cesarean birth, one of the twins was found dead while the other was alive, prompting medics in Amuria Hospital to refer the children to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for possible detachment. But the team in Soroti also referred the family to Mulago National Referral Hospital.

However, the family failed to secure an appointment with medics to carry out an operation on the children, forcing the family to return to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital. The living conjoined twin stayed alive for six days while stuck to the other dead baby. She is now 1 year old.

To celebrate her birthday, a thanksgiving prayer was held at Aojangur village, Obalanga parish in Kapelebyong district on Sunday 27th March 2022.

During the thanksgiving, the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces, Lt Gen. Peter Elwelu called upon Christians from all walks of life to honor and worship one God.

He noted that even Doctors are guided by the Holy Spirit and not any amount of money can save life.

Elwelu described Dr. Epodoi as a man of God whom God uses to cure his people.

Meanwhile, the District Woman MP Kapelebyong district, Hon. Jacinta Atuto pledged to support the girl through her Education.

The Mother says her daughter is in good health and has also started crawling though they lack needs. Dr. Joseph Epodoi however called upon people of good will to come and help the single mother in raising the little child.
