BUKEDEA: Woman Re-arrested for Breaking Ribs of 16 Year Old Orphan Girl

Police in Bukedea central police station in Bukedea district have re-arrested a Kokwech woman identified as Hellen Among for allegedly torturing a 16 year old orphan girl causing damages on her ribs and spinal cord.

 

The victim was identified as Scholastica Acam, a daughter to a single mother, Magurete Asio.

 

Acam was assaulted on 16th, March 2023 together with her mother over allegations that she caned a child belonging to the accused Among while she was on her way back from Kokwech primary school.

On 17th, March 2023, the case was reported to Malera police post whereby Among was arrested and transferred to Bukedea central police station. However, the public was shocked to realize that Among was set free by police.

 

“We failed to understand why she was set free, yet the girl she assaulted is not getting any treatment, doctors are saying her ribs are damaged together with the spinal cord”, added sources.

 

This attracted the attention of the people together with civil society organizations.

 

A community Barraza organized by Action Aid Uganda headed by Santos Osekeny resolved that the suspect be arrested.

 

“Looking at the situation of the tortured girl, we agreed the suspect should be rearrested”, said Mr. Osekeny.

 

Mr. Osekeny also added that the tortured girl’sndoctors require a sum of 12 million in Ongino hospital in order to enable her operation.

 

AIP Beatrice Apiny, the deputy district crime intelligence officer handling the file confirmed her arrests saying the file has been forwarded today 17th, May 2023 to the state attorney for sanction.

 

“I am new in the station but I want to confirm that Among was arrested yesterday and the file has been dragged to the attorney for sanction.
