MBALE CITY
Police in Mbale district is holding a 32 year old man identified as Mwalye Robert, a professional teacher. Mwalye who was arrested on Friday is a resident of Futu Cell, Central Ward, Industrial City Division, Mbale City.
He was arrested for allegedly forging the stamp and signature for Mbale District Resident Commissioner, Asumin Nasike to get EMYOOGA cash.
RDC Nasike and police led the arrest of Mwalye who was picked from Mbale City and transferred to Mbale district on Friday afternoon where the crime was committed.
Nasike says, Mwalye forged her signature and stamp to get over 150 million shillings from the bank under EMYOOGA through Micro finance support centre as the main fund in 2022.
She adds that Mwalye obtained money through different saccos for example PWDs Sacco, Tax operators, Recording artist sacco among others while liaising with different people to enable him get this money in Mbale district.
According to Asumin she says Mwalye is detained at Busobo police station Mbale district as the investigation continues.
She says charges of forgery, corruption and theft will be opened against him after the investigations are complete.
When we contacted, the Micro finance support centre Regional office in Mbale, they acknowledged that the RDC had communicated to them about the arrest of Mwalye.
Geting a comment from Rogers Taitika the Elgon region police spokesperson were futile saying he had not got information by Press time.
Government through Micro finance support centre as the fund manager started the distribution of EMYOOGA money in 2021 with the aim of developing communities.
