A private security guard attached to Security Plus Limited has been arrested for shooting to death a Businesswoman in Bugolobi Market, Kampala yesterday, 28th July 2023.
Aijuka Arode was arrested today, 29th July 2023 after an intensive manhunt by security agencies.
According to Luke Owoyesigyiere, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Aijuka shot Mutesi Zainabu at Bugolobi Market at about 9:00pm after a heated argument.
“On July 28, 2023, at approximately 9 pm, a distressing altercation occurred between a security guard, AIJUKA ARODE, employed by Security Plus Ltd, and a businesswoman, Mutesi Zainabu, aged 48, who operated a drinks and merchandise store within Bugolobi Market building,” the statement issued today reads in part.
Owoyesigyiere says that during the unfortunate confrontation, the security guard allegedly moved a distance of about three meters and fired a single shot at the store where the victim was situated.
Mutesi Zainabu was critically injured and promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Despite all efforts, she tragically succumbed to the injuries she sustained.
“Her body was respectfully conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for Postmortem examination,” he says.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Police observed that the suspect had fled with his rifle.
“However, through diligent efforts, we were able to apprehend the suspect today in the Morning , and he is currently detained at Jinja road Police. We have also successfully recovered the suspected murder weapon,” he says in the statement dated 29th July 2023.
