Authorities at Amuria Senior Secondary school have suspended all students for participating in a strike that left several damages at the school on the night of Tuesday, 17th October, 2023.

The students allegedly went on strike on Tuesday between 7pm to 8pm on grounds that they missed food at school.

The decision to suspend the students was arrived at the following day, Wednesday evening unanimously following a joint stakeholders meeting.

The Amuria Resident District Commissioner, Lillian Eyal confirms the suspension saying only senior four candidates were left to do exams.

She said the team agreed that the learners go home and come back with their parents after one week.

“We agreed that they go back, stay for one week and come back with their parents. We have senior four students because they have to continue with their exams,” Eyal said.

The students claim that they went on strike because of missing food though the school administration says the students feared revisions.

Students who spoke to this website on condition of anonymity said they were propelled to strike because some students were denied supper by a teacher on duty on the grounds that they were not smart.

The students also say Francis Egonyu, the alleged teacher who was on duty likes mistreating learners with unnecessary punishments and that had piled anger in the learners.

They admit that during the strike, glasses of buildings were destroyed while other students went on to stone and damage motor vehicles on the roadside including shattering the mirrors of the RDC’s car.

Amuria SS is a mixed day and boarding school with a population of 1,100 students.
