The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Oyam District has women to resort to natural method of family planning, adding that contraceptives kill innocent life.
William Komakech delivered the messages while addressing students gathered to celebrate the International Nurses and Midwives Day on May 12, 2024 in Multipurpose Hall at St Mary Midwifery in DR. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo, Agago district.
The celebration was attended by medical teams from Aber Hospital in Oyam district, St Joseph hospital in Kitgum, Gulu among others. This year’s celebration was held under the theme, “Our Nurses Our future. The economic Power for care.”
Speaking to the multitude, Komaketch revealed how he arrested a nurse accused by residents from an undisclosed health facility for carrying out 99 abortions after investigating the matter and finding out that the accusation was true.
He adds that according to sources within Aber, 10 girls died from unsafe abortion.
During the arrest he also managed to rescue some girls who were still lying on beds waiting for their unborn babies to be aborted.
Komaketch therefore urges the local community to resort to natural family planning, instead of contraceptives saying they kill lives. He described those who use them as, “killers”.
“Family planning must be natural. I have a very good experience and we practice it physically with my wife and it works. Contraceptives kill and now who’s the killer? Is it the mother? It’s you who kills, not so. Therefore, do your work well and go to heaven when your hands are very clean,” he said.
He further urged the local community in Agago district to collaborate with authorities to fight abortion, adding that Aber in Oyam district is now enforcing the fight and as a result, they have collected 10 machines used to aid abortions from different facilities in oyam district.
Similarly, Akot Polly, Deputy Principal St Mary Midwifery Kalongo cautioned nurses and Midwives against taking money from rich people, or anyone to carry out abortions, adding that this profession is full of temptations but midwives should follow the footsteps of the founder, tracing back from the Bible on how Moses’ life was saved by midwives.
Polly urged stakeholders to support nurses and midwives because they are on the frontline whenever there are disease outbreaks giving an example of Covid-19 where some nurses and midwives died because of being at the frontline.
