A Fuso truck loaded with matooke has rammed into people seated by the roadside at Salajevo Trading Centre, along the Kapchorwa-Nabongo Junction Road in Bulambuli District killing 6 on the spot.
According to SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the truck rammed into five people at about 6:30PM on Thursday, 20th February, 2025. The six casualty is the driver of the truck.
The six bodies have been transported to Muyembe Health Centre IV pending postmortem while the motor vehicle remains at the scene of the accident, pending towing to the police yard.
All the deceased are male adults, and their identities have not yet been identified. Meanwhile, three survivors—two male adults and one female adult—are receiving treatment at the same health facility.
Taitika says that the case is being investigated under TSD 08/20/02/2025, Tar 14/2025 of Bulambuli.
The motor vehicle involved is a white Fuso Fighter, registration number UAR 527R.
It is reported that the driver, who died on the spot, was coming from Kapchorwa, loaded with bananas. Upon reaching Salajevo Centre, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a group of people who were seated along the roadside, killing all of them on the spot. The identities of the five deceased individuals have not yet been confirmed.
