Five men in the sub counties of Omodoi, Akoboi and Ngariam in Katakwi district are in trouble for allegedly collaborating and stealing cattle in renewed cattle thefts in the district.
The suspects accused of being involved in cattle theft and collaboration include Julius Ogwang, Paul Icumar, all residents of Atirir village, Omodoi sub county, Toroma county and Godfrey Amodoi a resident of Aipany village, Richard Elungat, a resident of Odike village and Julius Ongura of Dadas village, Dadas parish, Akoboi sub county.
Maj. Simon Gidudu, the Commander Wiski Battalion confirmed to this publication the arrest saying Julius Ogwang ran from one of the kraals and his phones fell down and he was arrested following the exhibit found at the kraal. He said the culprits will be screened and those found guilty will face the law. He says they have resolved to intensify patrols to stem the vice.
Vincent Savior Okwi, deputy Resident District Commissioner Katakwi said the five boys were arrested after one Julius Ogwang was arrested with a cow of unidentified person on Tuesday, 22nd April, 2025 and was taken to Magoro barracks.
Okwi also the chairperson district security committee appealed to the Local councilors to be vigilant by reporting all cattle thieves and collaborators to authorities to reveal the other gang members who terrorize communities.
Geoffrey Omolo, LCV Katakwi who doubles as member in District security committee appealed for community vigilance in reporting such wrong doers in the community.
Julius Ogwang denied being involved in any criminal act of theft in any kraal while the others said their names were mentioned by Ogwang who is a hardened criminal.
The five were by Wednesday taken to Ngariam army Barracks waiting for law to take its course.
