Mbale District has received Shs1.2 billion to construct new headquarters at Busoba Sub-County on district land.
This was revealed on Friday, 31st October, 2025 by Muhammad Mafabi, the Mbale District LCV Chairperson, during an exclusive interview at his office.
Mafabi stated that the funds have already been disbursed to the district’s account by the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.
The construction of the new headquarters is necessitated by the need for Mbale District to vacate its current offices at Malukhu, which will be handed over to Mbale City. The city, in turn, will occupy the current district offices, while the Industrial City Division takes over the city’s premises.
According to Mafabi, the district requires Shs90 billion to complete the construction of the new headquarters, but the recent funding will serve as a starting point. He appealed for more funds from the Central Government to complete the project.
Stanley Bayole, the Mbale Resident District Commissioner, cautioned the district to utilize the funds effectively, warning that failure to do so would result in legal action.
Residents of Busiu Town Council, Paulo Mutambo and Sarah Wanzala, welcomed the development, expressing relief that they will no longer have to travel long distances to access district offices in Mbale City.
They urged the district to expedite the construction process to ensure timely completion.
