SERERE

Leaders in Serere District have renewed calls to government for the upgrade of Serere Health Centre IV into a General Hospital and the creation of Kasilo District and Kateta County, citing the growing population and pressure on local services.
Presenting the district memorandum to the NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Serere District NRM Chairperson Michael Olobo said that despite having two Health Centre IVs, Serere still faces major healthcare gaps, with three sub-counties, Kadungulu, Kidetok, and Ochapa town councils, lacking any health centre IIIs.
“Your Excellency, the people of Serere wish to bring to your attention the need to elevate Serere Health Centre IV to a General Hospital and to support the completion of our surgical hospital project, which stalled due to limited funds,” Olobo said.
He added that the district council had also resolved the creation of Serere Municipality, Kasilo District, and Kateta County, describing them as people-driven priorities backed by research and consultations.
Olobo also appealed for the tarmacking of Soroti–Serere–Mugarama–Mulondo Road and the completion of the Kumi–Ngora–Serere–Kagwara Road, saying residents are anxious to see visible progress.
The calls came as President Museveni resumed his campaign trail in the Teso Sub-region this afternoon, starting with a rally in Serere District.
In his campaign address, President Museveni reassured residents that government will construct new Health Centre IIIs in Kadungulu, Kidetok, and Ochapa, and that plans are underway for the construction of a General Surgical Ward as well as the elevation of one of the two Serere Health Centre IVs to a General Hospital.
Meanwhile, NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) and Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among affirmed that the upgrade of Serere Health Centre IV has already been captured under the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV), and funds for the Kumi–Ngora–Kagwara road have been allocated.
Serere leaders concluded by pledging their unwavering support to President Museveni and the NRM, vowing to “protect the gains” achieved under his leadership as campaigns intensify across Teso.
