In it’s efforts to enhance expertise of Graduate Medical Students, Makerere University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Entebbe Children’s Surgical Hospital to offer practical skills to graduate medical students majoring or specializing in paediatric surgery.
The Principal Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Prof. Bruce Kirenga said the MOU signing is one of the efforts the University is undertaking to improve the training of healthcare professionals in the country especially the specialized healthcare professionals. He noted that though the collaboration covers graduate medical students, in future it will be expanded to undergraduate medical students.
While addressing the press after signing the MOU with Entebbe Children’s Surgical Hospital on May 21,2026, Prof. Bruce Kirenga said he was impressed with the facilities at the children’s surgical hospital saying it will offer a great opportunity for Makerere University graduate medical students to acquire adequate practical skills in surgery of children.
Prof. Kirenga asked management of Entebbe Children’s Surgical Hospital to extend the collaboration with Makerere University to other academic institutions in Italy for more advanced sub-specialty training that could be available there.
The Country Manager, Entebbe Children’s Surgical Hospital, Giacomo Menaldo, believes that his hospital being purely a paediatric hospital in Uganda, will offer a wide practical experience to Makerere University graduate medical students on treating children with simple and complicated surgical cases.
