The National Medical Stores (NMS) has recalled Metronidazole 200mg (Metroplus) tablets and Ampicillin&Cloxacillin capsules 250mg capsules from health facilities with immediate effect.
In a letter dated, 23rd July, 2026 NMS directs heads of health facilities to stop further use of these two drugs and ensure that they are returned to NMS at the earliest opportunity.
“All the remaining affected stock should reach NMS before 30th October, 2026,” reads the NMS letter which also urges the health facilities to provide the current status of the affected stock.
Without revealing reason behind the recall, NMS confirms that the affected drugs were supplied to it by Kampala Pharmaceutical Industries.
The affected batches are 1225 for Metroplus with an expiry date of August, 2026 and 1025, 1125, 1225 and 1425 for Azulox with expiry dates of December, 2026.
“Kindly establish the quantity of the affected stock available at your facility and return all remaining stock to NMS when NMS drivers deliver to your facility,” reads the letter written by NMS General Manager, Moses Kambare.
