MBALE CITY

Mbale Regional Referral Hospital has officially opened an emergency and epidemic response centre. Mbale regional referral hospital serves 16 districts and one city from eastern region.

While speaking today, Wednesday, 21st February, 2024 to journalists at Mbale Resort Hotel during USAID in partnership Africa one health university network training workshop, Dr. Stephen Obbo, the director of Mbale regional hospital said that this center has been opened to deal with epidemics and emergency cases.

He says that this follows the suspected outbreak of Cholera in Mbale city last week where one person from Bukasakya was confirmed sick and is now under treatment.

According to Obbo, this center will help to handle such emergency and epidemic cases which will arise in the region.

He also urged community members to always report any patient with an epidemic case like Cholera among others to Mbale regional referral hospital such that they can handle such matters at early stages and stop their spread.

James Kutosi, the Public Relations Officer of Mbale City says that they took samples of the Cholera patient to Mbale regional referral hospital and results have been sent to Ministry of Health for official declaration since Mbale city has no authority.

He says that they have dispatched a health team to Bukasakya and other areas in Industrial division to sensitize people about hygiene.

The purpose of this training is to empower journalists from Bugisu and other regions across the country with knowledge on how to report about epidemics and response related stories.
