KATAKWI: RDC to Arrest GISOs Sleeping on Job as Cattle Thefts Escalate in District

KATAKWI

The Katakwi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has threatened to arrest Gombolola Internal Security Officers (GISOs) and Parish Internal Security Officers (PISOs) who fail to report incidences of corruption in their respective sub counties and parishes.

Rt. Maj. Godfrey Katamba made this pronouncement following recent cases noting incidents such as Kaikamosing parish chief, Helen Abilu who instructed beneficiary of PDM to heap 1000 heaps of potatoes in order to qualify for PDM, arrest of Ongongoja LC3 William Omeke and David Amanu of Olupe in Ngariam over alleged collaboration with cattle thieves, all incidents he says were never reported by GISOs or PISOs but whistleblowers.

According to Katamba, there are unreported occurrences in sub counties by GISOs and PISOs, who are responsible for investigating and reporting civil servants and PDM officers who extort money from the PDM program, which is intended to improve people’s lives.

The district’s head of security also directed the GISOs and PISOs to compile a list of Karimojong cattle collaborators and submit it to the district security committee for appropriate action.

Furthermore, the RDC challenged them to monitor government programs and projects because they fall under the purview of the President, whose responsibility is to oversee and monitor programs in their respective jurisdictions.

“The office of RDC in Katakwi has tried several times to stop the incompetence in offices of civil servants following the cry from people but the lower administrations of government have not followed suit,” he said.

Katamba made this revelation in his office on Monday 30-09-2024 following the rampant complaints brought by locals to his office due to incompetence from individual government workers.

However, Simon Okwaput, the Parish Internal Security Officer (PISO) for Akoboi, Omodoi Sub County, and DISO Ngariam, expressed the need by the government to issue some of them with identification cards or appointments.

Hon Geoffrey Omolo, LCV Katakwi district in his other submission urges government entities to do their work in order to reduce complaints from the community.
