MBALE CITY
A total of 35 sportsmen and women have successfully completed the FUFA Talent Identification Scouting course, a two-day course that was hosted at Islamic University in Uganda Mbale from Tuesday 28th January to Wednesday 29th January.
The training was conducted by Petros Koukouras from the FUFA Football Development Department.
Participants in the course were trained on how to use scouting online system and tasked with scouting for promising players in various FUFA-organized competitions.
Katende Jorem Raymond, a chief scout working as the FUFA manager for talent identification in Uganda says the course is aimed at equipping scouts with essential skills for identifying potential young football talent across the country.
This he says will help solve the question of why Ugandan footballers have failed to play in the European leagues.
“We have equipped these sports persons with identification skills with a Grade 4 scouts’ qualification, FUFA wants each district to have such a qualified scout that will help us identify undiscovered talent, put on our system so we can follow up, we also intend to establish regional academies at different schools. This initiative, aligns with FUFA's Technical Master Plan for elite football talent development,” says Katende.
The participants came from different parts of the Eastern Regional districts like Jinja, Busia, Tororo, Sironko, Manafwa, and Mbale.
The FUFA Talent ID framework is integral to the FUFA Technical Master Plan 2023-2030, designed to create a robust talent pathway.
