Uganda Communications Commission, (UCC) has summoned Media Houses and Broadcasters to an urgent meeting over what it calls increased broadcast of content filled with hate speech.
The letter dated 25th February, 2025 and signed by the UCC Executive Director, Nyombi Thembo is addressed to All Broadcasters, Chairperson National Association of Broadcasters, Chairperson Rural Broadcasters Association, Chairperson Uganda Media Owners Association, Chairperson Independent Online Journalists Association and Chairperson Online Media Publishers Association.

Nyombi says the meeting has been prompted by increasing broadcast of content that is creating disharmony amongst the public.
“Such content is increasingly sensational, spreading hatred, and false information capable of inciting violence amongst the public,” writes Nyombi.
Interestingly the CDF, General Kainerugaba Muhoozi recently tweeted warning Broadcasters against publishing stories that may create disharmony. In his letter, Nyombi says, the National Security Council has noted similar concerns. Muhoozi heads the National Security Council.
The meeting is scheduled for 27th February, 2025 at the UCC headquarters in Bugolobi at 9:00AM.
The meeting where CEOs of Media Houses have been asked to attend in person will have representatives from the Ministry of ICT& National Guidance, Government representatives and representatives from the Security Agencies.
