President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Uganda’s Permanent Representative to United Nations into Cabinet.

According to a State House statement, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare was appointed as an ex officio member of the Cabinet and was sworn in on Monday, 28th April, 2025 by the Vice President, H.E Jessica Alupo.

Ayebare quickly took to his X-handle today thanking the President for his appointment.

“Thank you, Your Excellency for the trust in me over the years with strategic Diplomatic assignments both bilateral and multilateral. I look forward to diligently serving as an Ex-officio in Cabinet. Thank @jessica_alupo for swearing me in  yesterday,” Ayebare tweeted on Tuesday, 29th April, 2025.

Ayabare has been Uganda’s representative to the UN since 2017 and is currently in the country with representatives of Starlink, Ben MacWilliams and Brandi Oliver, who met the President on Monday, 28th April 2025

President Museveni says he appreciates their commitment to providing low-cost internet in hard-to-reach areas and establishing a presence in Uganda.

Elon Musk’s satellite internet service by SpaceX, Starlink, applied for a license from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to operate in Uganda early in April, 2025.

Ex-Officio Ministers are appointed to Cabinet without being elected as Members of Parliament and as ex-officio members and they do not have a right to vote on any issue requiring a vote in Parliament.
