A tragic accident has occurred today, Monday, 26th May, 2025 in Lwakhakha Town Council, Namisindwa District, resulting in one death and two critical injuries.
A truck, registration number UAR 972C, loaded with scrap metals, rammed into pedestrians along the Lwakhakha-Kenya road.
According to an eyewitness, Bonny Wekesa, the truck was traveling from Bubutu towards the Kenya side when it lost control and crashed into people doing business along the road.
Wekesa attributed the accident to brake system failure, which caused the vehicle to ram into pedestrians. A 50-year-old woman not yet identified who was doing business along the road, died on the spot.
Two minors who were on the truck sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Bubutu Health Center III.
Addie Rich, the Namisindwa District Police Commander, confirmed the accident but stated that the driver had fled the scene.
He promised to provide more information to the media once he had gathered sufficient details, as he did not have enough information at the time of reporting.
