Youth leaders from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Bugisu have formed a regional caucus, bringing together elected youth representatives from the six districts of Bugisu.

The group convened over the weekend at Roxy Hotel in Senior Quarters, Mbale City, where they elected new leaders to steer the caucus.

Nimrod Kakayi, the NRM Youth League Chairperson for Namisindwa District, was elected as the Regional Chairperson for Bugisu.

Gilbert Mawarara, Chairperson of Manafwa, was elected Vice Chairperson, while Isaac Masumba, Chairperson of Sironko, was appointed Secretary for Finance.

Mike Khayendekhe, Chairperson for Mbale District, was named Publicity Secretary; Jossy Wamboko, Chairperson for Bududa, was elected Spokesperson; Derrick Trapzium, Chairperson for Bulambuli, was entrusted as Chief Coordinator; and Pius Modde, Chairperson for Mbale City, was elected as General Secretary of the caucus.

In his acceptance remarks, Nimrod Kakayi emphasized the need for youth unity to form a strong collective voice that can effectively lobby for services and recognition from national leaders.

He stressed that young leaders should no longer be viewed merely as campaigners for senior politicians. He thanked the youth for entrusting him with leadership and promised not to disappoint them.

Kakayi noted that the core mission of the caucus is to unite, lobby, and mobilize for the benefit and interests of the majority of young people in the region.

Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa Male Youth Councilor, urged young leaders to remain committed to their primary responsibility of mobilizing fellow youth. He called on them to fight for space and to broaden the reach and impact of the youth agenda.
