Three National Resistance Movement (NRM) officials have been remanded on charges related to electoral irregularities during the recently concluded party primaries for Member of Parliament flag bearers.

The accused include Baliruno David, a Party Administrator, and Matovu Vincent, the Buyende District Registrar, both charged with forgery and uttering false documents. Gwambuga Godfrey, the Kamuli District Registrar, faces additional charges of forgery, falsification of the tally register, and conspiracy to commit a felony alongside others still at large.

According to ASP Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North Police spokesperson, the suspects appeared before Kamuli Chief Magistrate on Wednesday afternoon, 23rd July, 2025.

The Kamuli Chief Magistrate, Paul Owino Abdonson remanded them to Buyende and Kamuli Government Prisons respectively until July 28, 2025.

Kasadha added that the arrests followed investigations into allegations of result tampering in several sub-counties, allegedly in favour of certain candidates.

It should be noted that earlier, Registrar Gwambuga Godfrey and NRM Administrator Michael Magala reportedly announced falsified results for the Buzaaya County NRM parliamentary primaries. They declared that incumbent MP Martin Muzaale had garnered 17,556 votes, while his opponent, Bamusibule Kintu Paul, had received only 2,000 votes.

Kamuli District has a history of election-related violence and intimidation, often linked to tensions between rival political camps—those allied to the Speaker of Parliament (Team Mulamu) and those supporting First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga (Team Kadaga).
