High court sitting in Tororo has sentenced Muhammed Onyango alias Bangala to 27 years in prison on charges of aggravated defilement.
Onyango who was convicted and sentenced on Monday, 28th July, 2025, defiled an 8 year old girl, a resident of Apokor central zone in Merikit Sub County.
It was heard that on 23 May 2021 at around 11am, the victim was coming from church when she met three boys among whom was Onyango who asked the 8 year old to hold for him a bicycle so that he can load his cassava.
According to the statement by the state prosecutor, Aminah Namala, the victim did not see the bicycle but instead one of the men grabbed her and pulled her into a cassava plantation where they had carnal knowledge of her.
Onyango and his group after the sexual act disappeared leaving the victim in a lot of pain and she saw blood and semen in her private parts.
The victim later moved from the scene while crying and met three men to whom she narrated what happened. The three men later informed the victim’s mother who joined the three men to hunt for Onyango.
The mother of the victim later reported the matter to police which provided the service of the canine dog to track the accused person who happened to be Onyango.
Upon concluding the hearing of the matter, Justice Dr. Henry Kawesa found Onyango guilty of aggravated defilement contrary to section 129(3) (4) (a) of the penal code act. Onyango was then awarded a sentence to serve for 27 years in prison. The Judge subtracted the 5 years he spent on remand reducing the sentence to 22 years
