BUTALEJA
The Butaleja NRM office has failed to resolve an election petition in regards to the recently concluded LCIII Primaries at Himutu Sub County.
The 3 candidates for the LCIII Chairperson seat in Himutu Sub County, on Tuesday morning, 19th August, 2025 appeared in the RDC’s boardroom for a vote recount, following a petition that a wrong candidate was declared winner.
The harmonization meeting was chaired by Moses Mudehere, the Butaleja district NRM Vice Chairperson. However, James Hisama (incumbent LCIII and embattled), refused to have a vote recount wondering how the Registrar (Kuzaima Hasahya), who announced him as the winner could again betray himself by announcing another candidate winner in case the recount goes against him.
Hisama, boldly demanded that their case be handled by the Tribunal apparently sitting in Kyadondo NRM party headquarters. Asked how many votes he polled, Hisama, said he got 2970.
Amos Wandera, who says he got 3200 votes, claimed to have won the election. He supported Hisama’s position arguing that Kyadondo, has better solutions. He also said that he has enough evidence and confidence to guarantee his triumph; and further stated that the original result for his opponent James Hisama, is 2771 votes.
Meanwhile, Amos Mauso, said he was in the 2nd position with 1595 votes, alleging that James Hisama polled 1290 votes, and Amos Wandera 2046 votes. He wonders how Hisama, was declared winner.
Mauso, also stated that many of his supporters were beaten and denied to vote in 4 areas of his strongholds, whereas his opponents simply balanced the votes on paper, upon compromising his agents in some polling stations.
Mauso, however, conceded that Wandera Amos beat them, and vowed to fight for Wandera in the NRM Tribunal at Kyadondo, since he has enough evidence.
But Betty Kalumba, the deputy RDC for Butaleja district, asked the candidates to be calm as they seek justice, and implored them to convince their supporters not to be over excited.
On Friday, Amos Mauso, filed a petition before the NRM Tribunal at Kyadondo, denouncing the victory of James Hisama, as the party flag bearer. He was referred back to the NRM office for a solution which has failed prompting the district office to refer the matter back to Elections Tribunal.
