In an interesting twist of events, the Democratic Front of Mathias Mpuuga, has withdrawn its support for Mubarak Munyagwa of the Common Man’s Party in the forthcoming elections.

A statement released today, 11th October, 2025, says the Democratic Front has decided to withdraw its support for Munyagwa and instead back the incumbent, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, in the upcoming election.

The DF had previously withdrawn from fronting a Presidential Candidate after breaking away from National Unity Platform, (NUP) Party.

Official Statement from the Democratic Front

After extensive consultations and a thorough review of the current political environment, the Democratic Front, under the leadership of Mathias Mpuuga, has reconsidered its earlier decision to support Mubarak Munyagwa of the Common Man’s Party in the forthcoming elections.

Our assessment indicates that Munyagwa’s popularity remains low and his chances of winning are minimal. In the interest of national stability and progress, the Democratic Front has therefore decided to withdraw its support for Munyagwa and instead back the incumbent, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, in the upcoming election.

We believe this decision reflects our commitment to unity, continuity, and the advancement of our nation’s development agenda.

We call upon all Democratic Front members and supporters to stand firmly behind President Museveni and work collectively towards a peaceful and prosperous Uganda.

Signed,

The Leadership of the Democratic Front
