Kenya’s President, H.E William Samoei Ruto has in a Presidential Proclamation issued today, 15th October, 2025, outlined four Orders to be followed in a State Funeral to be accorded to the deceased Hon. Baba Raila Odinga.
President Ruto also put the record straight that the late Raila Odinga passed on in India where he was receiving medical treatment in the morning of Wednesday, 15th October, 2025.
The Proclamation orders that Raila Odinga who was born on 7th January, 1945 be accorded a period of national mourning effective today, 15th October until sunset of the day of his interment.
That Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be accorded a State Funeral with military honours and the attendant State Protocols being rendered and observed.
The Flag of the Republic of Kenya shall be flown at half-mast at State House and all Kenyan Diplomatic Missions, Public buildings and Public Grounds, all military bases, posts, and stations on all naval vessels of the Republic of Kenya and however, all over the territory of the Republic of Kenya from today until sunset of the day of his interment.
The President, Deputy President, Prime Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Justice, Cabinet Secretaries, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Speaker of the Senate, Kenya’s Diplomats abroad, and whomsoever is authorized by law, shall not fly the national flag on their official motor vehicles from today until sunset of the day of his interment.
“May Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s family be comforted, may his memory be honoured, and may his example be emulated,” writes President Ruto in his proclamation.
