IGANGA
The central Busoga diocese is to embark on construction of a shillings 3 billion cathedral.
The Bishop Central Busoga Diocese, Patrick Wakula revealed this while speaking during the inauguration of four canons at the All Saints Cathedral in SMS village.
He said construction of the cathedral is expected to be complete within the next two years.
Wakula said the state minister for agriculture, Fred Bwino who also doubles as the Member of Parliament Kigulu North has been tasked with the responsibility of soliciting for funds from both government and well-wishers to ensure the completion of the project.
He said the inauguration of the four canons leaves central Busoga diocese with a deficit of four.
“As a diocese we still require more four canons to make it twelve,” he said.
Wakula urged the newly inaugurated canons to behave exemplarily by being disciplined and honest to ensure they portray a positive image before members of the public.
“Members of the public expect to see us behaving in a manner that portrays a good image,” he said.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mayuge, Gulume Balyeino urged parents to enroll their children to church founded schools so that they can grow up with good morals.
“Church founded schools have been known for shaping the morals of a child become responsible citizens of the country,” he said.
Balyeino appealed to religious leaders to utilize the pulpit and mobilize faithful to embrace government programs like EMYOOGA or parish Development model program to ensure they improve on their household incomes.
He expressed concern over the manner in which members of the Uganda peoples defense forces fish protection unit always transfers suspects arrested in Mayuge district to Kampala to answer charges related to dealing in illegal fishing habits.
“A person should be charged in an area where an offense has been committed not elsewhere,” he said.
Balyeino said the current COVID 19 vaccination exercise in the district has so far registered a success with over 779,000 people out of the expected target of 870,000.
He said previously members of the religious cult Enjili nkalu, who were opposed to the vaccination exercise also took part after negotiations with relevant district officials.
