Mt Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise (METGE), a non-government organization has launched water projects in dry parts of Mbale to help tree nursery operators and the community access clean water.

The water project was launched in Bumaena village in Bushende sub county Mbale District on Thursday evening, 10th February 2022.

According to Joanita Mbabazi, the METGE communications officer, this is the fourth project in Mbale alone. Mbabazi explained that the first project was commissioned last November in Namagumba, another one in Busano and Namatsale.

She adds that the hunt is on to identify other communities that need water cautioning that the area must be near tree nurseries.

Luka Kwagala, the Bushende LC chairman asked locals to embrace and protect the project. Kwagala says the communities should make sure the water source is clean at all times since it benefits them. He commended METGE for their efforts in environmental conservation.

Bwayo Emma, the Namisindwa Male Youth Councillor asked METGE to extend the project to other drought hit areas especially outside Mbale. Bwayo cited Namboko, Namitsa, Bubutu and Namabya all in Namisindwa district as areas which urgently need this water project to facilitate the tree growing exercises.
