A gruesome incident occurred in Namisindwa District on Wednesday evening, 12th March, 2025 where a man slit his wife’s throat over allegations of adultery.
The incident happened at Bukitongo B village, Butemulani parish Bumwoni Sub County in Namisindwa district.
The suspect, Rogers Kurima, 34, is currently on the run, and police are searching for him.
According to Denis Walukawu, the couple’s son, Kurima had been living in Kenya for most of his time and returned home on Wednesday evening. He began arguing with his wife, Sharon Nelima, 32, accusing her of bringing other men into their home while he was away.
Walukawu stated that his father used a hoe to cut his mother’s throat, then fled the scene.
The LCIII chairperson of Bumwoni Sub County, Michael Khaukha, told our reporter on Thursday morning that domestic violence has been increasing in the area over the past two months whereby 10 cases have been reported and urged the police to intervene and sensitize locals about the dangers of family conflicts.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Mbale City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, has promised to provide more information after consulting with the Namisindwa District CID.
