MBALE CITY

An angry mob descended on a car thief on Monday night, 6th October, 2025 after he crashed the same car he had stolen along Tororo-Mbale Highway.
The yet to be identified thief lost control of the vehicle and knocked down a perimeter wall of Joy secondary school while attempting to flee. An angry mob subsequently descended upon him and lynched him. By the time the police arrived, the thief had been killed.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the incident occurred at around 8: 50 PM near police barracks.
He says it is alleged that the deceased stole a silver-grey vehicle registration number UBJ 518K, which was parked near a shop. When he attempted to drive the vehicle away, he crashed into the perimeter wall of Joy Secondary School, and the vehicle got stuck on the pavement.
Taitika adds that as he tried to escape, the mob surrounded him and stoned him to death on the Mbale-Tororo road.
The body has been taken to Mbale City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The alleged stolen vehicle has been impounded at the police parking yard pending investigation.
